As if our prayers had been answered and some, it would have been hard to find more ideal condions for this year’s Hatchlands
Run. A gloriously warm and sunny Sunday morning with no wind. Serene surroundings with a well prepared running track, marshalled by enthusiasc Guildford
Lions urging runners on. A feel good factor that seemed to encompass the event. All factors that contributed to some very good
mes and several PBs.
After a few words of encouragement and ably supported by the Lion’s mascot Roary, the Mayor set the 123 runners on their way on this the eighth me the run has taken place. It seemed no me at all before the first runners were heading down the grassy slope towards the lap marker or for those
on the 5k circuit the finish. The latter pleased to be finishing the others gritting their teeth with one or two more laps to complete.
Thanks to some real determination and despite some obvious pain all the runners bar one made it back. Thankfully St John’s Ambulance were there to
rescue the one faller who sprained an ankle. On completion of each event the Mayor presented medals to the winners.
A new team from the Lions was in charge for this year’s event.
We have learnt a lot thanks to the feedback from those who ran and others who are involved in the running fraternity.
We will put the feedback to good use as we look towards next year when we hope to return to Hatchlands with a bigger and be er event.
Thank you to all of those who took part, to all of the Lions and friends who did such a great job on the day. We have raised in excess of £1500 for the Lions welfare fund and the Samson Centre for MS.
