Recently Lion President Andrew Henwood, Lion Vic Quayle and Pauline Derbyshire, widow of former Guildford Lion John Derbyshire, visited Hedgers Almshouses at Merrow – eight affordable purpose-built bungalows for older single women who are still able to live independently.
Managing Trustee, Edward Martineau and Clerk to the Trustees, Susan Martineau, were retiring and a tree had been planted in the garden to commemorate their many years of service.
Andrew also visited the recently built and well used Residents Communal Garden Room and saw the chairs that had been donated by Guildford Lions Club. Previously the residents didn’t have anywhere to get together and socialise.
Afterwards residents, Trustees and guests adjourned to Ripley Village Hall for a buffet lunch.
