Review of 2025

Our aim is to serve the community in whatever way we can and have fun doing it.  That usually takes the form of raising money to support local charitable and deserving causes.  Our major annual fun and fundraising events, each of which is organised by a small group of members, were:

  • April – our second Classic Car Display in Guildford High Street
  • June – Music in the Park Concert at National Trust Hatchlands Park
  • July – Raft Race on the River Wey from Millmead to the Waterside Centre
  • July – Charity Golf Day at Clandon Regis Golf Club
  • November – Firework Fiesta, our largest event, featuring Live Music and a spectacular Firework Display on Stoke Park
  • December – our Christmas Collections at local supermarkets and helping with Santa with his float around parts of Guildford

From the money raised we distributed a total of just over £46,000 which included:

  • £10,000 to The Fountain Centre at Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford
  • over £6,000 to local Foods Banks
  • £6,000 of Supermarket Gift Cards to those in need at Christmas
  • £5,500 to Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey
  • £3,142 to the Guildford Shakespeare Company ‘Put up your swords’ education project
  • £2,142 to Charlie’s Promise Charity
  • £1,560 to the Cancer and Surgical Innovation Campaign at Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford
  • over £10,000 helped us to support other local charities, organisations and individuals including: Guildford Action, Basketball4 All, Family Refuge, Artventure, GBC Youth Cafe, Jigsaw School, Guildford Sea Cadets, Explorer Scouts, and a number of local schools.

So next time you see us collecting you’ll know why!

However, it is not all work as we also like to play!  In 2025 we had a varied social programme including evening social events, dinners, BBQs, golf, a bowls match against Burpham Bowling Club, and a weekend away in Salisbury.

We are a non-political organisation and welcome all comers irrespective of race, physical ability, religion or sexual orientation.  If your time is limited why not consider becoming a Supporter of the Club and helping out where possible at our events.  Start by asking to receive our monthly Supporters Newsletter (also available on our website).

Who are we?

The Club was formed in 1967, so we are approaching our 60th year, and we have a focus on making a difference to peoples’ lives in Guildford.  We are all volunteers, both male and female, with a passion for helping others whilst having some fun along the way.  Being based at the Waterside Centre in Guildford we support our local community, but as part of Lions International we also respond to global crises when appropriate.

About Us

There are approximately 600 clubs in the British Isles found in most towns and cities.  There are 10,000 members in the British Isles who give 500,000 hours of service annually and raise £9,000,000.  Guildford Lions Club meets monthly at the Waterside Centre and our aim is to help create a better environment in which our community can flourish.

We work with a number of Guildford agencies and charities, both large and small, to identify and help as many people as possible in our community. The majority of the funds we raise are used locally, although when disasters strike around the world, we unite with other Lions Clubs globally to offer assistance wherever we can.
