The Guildford Lion’s annual Charity Golf Day took place on Friday 11th July 2025, with over 60 players in attendance to show support for local charity Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey. The individual winner was Chris Stone seen here being presented with his trophy and prize by Lions President Geoff Sheldon.

This year the weather was very kind – almost too kind in fact, with temperatures hitting 30°C. Nevertheless the teams were able to make the most of the stunning 18-hole course at Clandon Regis Golf Club.
In total almost £6,000 was raised from the event, including raffle ticket sales and bids for the charity auction, as well as money raised from the “Beat the Pro” competition. Club Manager, Toby, kindly volunteered for this role to take on the field and raise extra money for the charity.
The £10,000 prize on offer for a Hole-in-One on the 2nd hole was sadly not claimed by any of the players. The game was followed by an excellent 2 course lunch prepared by the Clandon Regis catering team, and a presentation by one of the participants, Jason Bastable, the 2018 World Blind Golf Champion. He shared his personal journey of losing his sight as an adult due to glaucoma, the challenges he faced and the support he received from Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey – including introducing him to the England & Wales Blind Golf Association, which led to his new career.
From the total raised, the majority (£5,500) of the proceeds will go to Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey, with the remainder to Guildford Lions Community Welfare Fund.

David Brownjohn, the Event Chair for Guildford Lions said “We are very pleased to once again help Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey as they provide invaluable support to so many people across Surrey. We would
like to thank all the donors and sponsors who supported the event, in particular the event sponsor, P W Mining International Ltd and all those acknowledged on the Guildford Lions website. We would also like to thank all the participants who came along and from their generosity helped raise this magnificent total.”
Lisa Fletcher, Head of Fundraising & Engagement from Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey, said, “we are delighted to have partnered with the Guildford Lions for this wonderful event. The amount of money raised on the day is incredible and will enable us to support people in Surrey who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, partially sighted and deafblind.”

Founded in 1922, Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey supports over 8,500 people across the county who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, partially sighted or deafblind. The charity is committed to inclusion, accessibility, and independence, providing expert advice and support to help individuals thrive in their communities and achieve their aspirations.
