Opening of redesigned Patient Wellbeing Garden at The Fountain Centre, Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford
On Tuesday 1st September Lion President Andrew Henwood represented Guildford Lions Club at the official opening of the redesigned Patient Wellbeing Garden at The Fountain Centre, Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford. The event was due to take place on 24th June, but as it was forecasted to be 36c that day, it was postponed.
The garden has been divided into several separate areas with the clever use of shrubs and screens so that patients, families and hospital staff can sit and talk in a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of a very busy NHS Hospital.
Michael More-Molyneux, accompanied by his wife Sarah, cut the ribbon as his final official duty as Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, a role he had held for 11 years. Also present included the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Jane Tyson, Trustees of The Fountain Centre, representatives from the Hospital Trust and the garden designers and contractors who had been involved in the work.
Guildford Lions and the family and friends of former Guildford Lion John Derbyshire had donated a bench and two chairs in his memory for the garden.
Following last November’s Guildford Lions Firework Fiesta on Stoke Park, the Club also made a donation of £10,000 to The Fountain Centre to fund four hundred 1:1 exercise programmes which are of great benefit to those with cancer.
